Do you use the Microsoft Copilot 365 app on your iPhone or iPad? If yes, DO NOT update that app next month. Do yourself a favour. Do NOT update.
Why?
After the update, Microsoft is going to "turn off the ability to edit documents, presentations, and spreadsheets". After the update, that app is going to be a glorified AI viewer of Office documents.
Yes, you heard that right.
After the update, you will be prompted to download the standalone Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps to edit documents.
This is another example of how Microsoft makes incoherent decisions and vacillates back and forth without any clear vision or strategy. It feels like a company that is confused, indecisive, and making things up as it goes. It does not seem that Microsoft knows what it is doing.
In the past, you needed the standalone Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps to view and edit documents.
Then one day, they amalgamate all these separate apps into one giant app called Office 365, which they then renamed to Microsoft 365, which again they then renamed to Microsoft 365 Copilot. This made the 3 separate apps redundant, which means many people deleted all 3 of them.
After 15th September, you will need to download the 3 separate apps again! I am sure this update is actually a downgrade. 🙄
